Discover the best fishing and make the most of your fishing trip for all ages during your vacation in northern Michigan. With 11,000 inland lakes and the country’s longest freshwater coastline, it’s no wonder fishermen flock to the Great Lake State for a fishing experience unlike any other. So welcome, anglers! From Boyne City to Cross Village, discover these go-to lakes, rivers, and recommended charters!
Young State Park: Five minutes north of downtown Boyne City, cast a line into Mirror Pond. Stocked with rainbow, brown and lake trout, the pond features a large dock and gentle slope to the water, popular for families with children. Just steps away from the public boat launch into Lake Charlevoix, with access to Lake Michigan.
Bear River, Petoskey: Want to know where the locals go? It’s the Bear River. A popular whitewater recreation river in the center of Petoskey, locals know to fish the mouth of the river for steelhead and salmon. For the younger angler, head down the Little Traverse Wheelway to the trout-stocked Fishing pond (wheelchair accessible).
Inland Waterway: Stretching from Petoskey to Cheboygan and into Lake Huron, common catches in Crooked and Pickerel Lakes include walleye, perch, and northern pike. If you bring or rent a boat, Island View Cove or Crooked Lake Passage vacation rentals have docks on the water!
Wycamp Lake: A Tip of the Mitt best kept secret. Just 7 feet deep and a 9.8 mile shoreline, anglers visiting the Cross Village area can find this hidden gem for bluegill, yellow perch and largemouth bass. Surrounded by unspoiled state forest expect to see Bald Eagles. The scenery alone will bring you back to this north woods escape. The Lake is accessible by small boat, canoe and kayak.
